The plants are considered to be our primary teachers and we, the students, must learn to come to them with open hearts.  Our journey is to awaken the ancient wisdom implanted in each of our hearts, the genetic encoding of thousands of years of herb usage instilled in our memory banks.  The learning of this plant wisdom is joyful and fun, enriching and rewarding and leads to many unexpected pathways."

Learn the Art of Healing

Master Herbalist, Rose Kalajian, has had the opportunity to teach her Professional Herbalist Training Program for the last 11 years. Based on a course outline originally built by Master Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, this program offers an intensive look into in the hands-on laboratory and fieldwork of Herbalism.  From seed to harvest or from theory to practice, instruction always takes place in both our indoor and outdoor classrooms. Herbalists in training can expect to cover topics including:

  • Names & uses of 100+ herbs

  • Anatomy & Physiology 101

  • Wild plant identification

  • Growing, planting and harvesting practices

  • Herbal Product creation methods

  • Herbalist business basics

  • Formulating Herbal Recipes

Hello and Thank-you for your interest in the Herbalist Training Program. I am Rose Kalajian-Clinical Herbalist, Instructor and founder of the Natural Health Hut.

One question usually asked by a prospective student … What makes this school for Herbalists unique? What separates us from the other schools?

You do not study or learn alone. We come together each month and learn IN PERSON.

Research indicates that people who learn together, learn faster and retain more of what they have learned. Plus, You and your Classmates may become long lasting friends. (I have seen it!) In addition, Our Classmates encourage us. For one year we bond together, learning in the Outdoor Classroom - Gardens and the Indoor Classroom-Apothacary. As we Plant seeds together and watch the growth that we have unleashed into the soil, our connection with the plants and each other begins. Then… We will harvest our crops of herbs and take these plant spirits into the indoor classroom. We will transform these living plants into the tools the human and animal body can use to heal itself. You and your classmates will take these plants and create Tinctures, Salves, Syrups, Pills, Electuaries, Compresses, Poultices, Clay pastes, Skin butters and more. Sometimes during class days, we will find ourselves bursting out in laughter at some of the mistakes we make. But that is how we learn. Watching each other, listening to the questions and thoughts of our classmates.

You will be Learning in a setting of other like minded individuals. Learning in Community. Live like the plants themselves, IN COMMUNITY, not isolated or alone. Our goal is to establish relationships with plants and gain as much information about a Plant and the spirit it possesses—-TOGETHER!

What separates us from the other schools? You have the unique opportunity to apprentice in a functional Herb Shoppe. Once a month for 4 hours you are required to work one on one with me and a few of your classmates in the Herb Shoppe. What will we do? Make Herbal Medicine, work with customers seeking herbal healthcare, spending time tending to your garden. Here is where you can build your resume. Here is where you will build experience. I never had this opportunity when i graduated as an herbalist from Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal School. I had to open my shoppe if I wanted to work as an herbalist, flying by the seat of my pants. I swore I would give young herbalist an opportunity I did not have. To give students experience working in an Herb Shoppe.

Our learning Platform is Google Classroom. This makes your learning a seamless enviroment for recieving homewrork, knowing when its due, Resources, scheduling yourself for apprenticeship day, and for communicating with instructors and classmates. (You will be pleased that this system has eliminated the need for paper use. It is now in the cloud!)

The Schools backbone is from the fabulous Herbalist…Rosemary Gladstar. “The Art and Science of Herbology.” Each Lesson introduces you to a body system, plus the 10 to 12 herbs associated with that body system. Rosemary’s course also takes you on a magical journey weaving you thru Folklore and Traditional uses of plants, thru Essential Oils, Flower essences, Cleanse & Detox Program, Gardening, Drying herbs, Cosmetic Product Making, Medicine Making, Formulating, her course covers it all. However, If you do want and need a homestudy course I recommend this one by Rosemary.

I am able to enhance the journey Rosemary begins in you because of the acquired 25 years of Clinical Herbal Experience working solely in this community. As a Clinical Herbalist I have been able to put into practicum the theory taught in class. My skill and knowledge also includes Florida Native Plant Identification and their medicinal uses. Plus, Cautionary interactions between Pharmaceutical Drugs and Herbs. This is truly a well-rounded education in Herbal Training.

Rules and Guidlines: Yes the rules we have put into place, regarding attendance and turning in your homeowrk on time, are inflexible. However in its defense, it creates a learning enviroment that is cohesive and fluid. Each student comes to class prepared and ready to share the knowledge they have acquired. This preparedness from each student allows me to review the past month’s homework and move forward into the next lesson. So with all that being said… … When students are required to show up for the 12 days of class & turn in homework on time, your experience as a student can be dynamic!
